Centrally located Geneva and Fillmore County
provides convenient access to the East and West Coasts, Canada
and Mexico. Four-lane U.S.
Highway 81 and U.S. Highway 6 are transcontinental
highways that cross in Fillmore County. Interstate
80, just 20 minutes north of Geneva is one of the nation's
business transportation routes and stretches from one end
of the state to the other, in all, 482 miles. The first
class infrastructure and minimal congestion give matchless
speed to your company's markets.
The Burlington
Northern/Santa Fe Railway runs parallel
to U.S. Highway 6 in the county and provides service at Exeter,
Fairmont, and Grafton. BNSF provides sidings to O'Malley
Grain and Advanced BioEnergy ethanol plant by Fairmont and
a drop off point at Grafton for iron used by IPSCO Tubulars,
Inc. in Geneva.
Fairmont State Airfield, four miles north
of Geneva has two hard surfaced runways. One runway
is 4,400 foot and lighted. The other is a 3,600-foot
runway. Scheduled air service is available at the Lincoln
Municipal Airport. This airport located 55 minutes
east of Geneva offers passenger, airfreight, and air express
services.

Fillmore
County Local Labor Market Survey
The Fillmore County Development Corporation conducted a
local labor survey from April through July of 2006 with the
assistance of the NE Department of Economic Development. The
principle findings of that survey were:
28% of those surveyed were unemployed, 3% were seeking
jobs, the other 25% were not seeking for a variety of reasons,
and the most common reason was that they were retired.
- Employed and unemployed workers willing to apply for
new job openings were both willing to drive long distances
for work. 43.1% of employed workers were willing
to consider jobs that would require a 16-30 mile commute
one way, 48.1% unemployed workers would do the same. 24.6%
and 22.2% of employed and unemployed would consider driving
31-50 miles respectively.
- The median age of respondents was 55.
- 93% of the respondents had achieved a High School degree, with 27% of those having one - two years additional education, and 21% having a Bachelors or graduate degree

Fillmore County Revolving Loan Funds - The communities of Geneva & Exeter have access to Revolving Loan funds developed from CDBG grants received from the Nebraska Department of Economic Development. These funds are used for low interest loans available to new and expanding businesses.
Geneva LB840 Funds - The City of Geneva collects a 1.5% sales tax, of which 33.33% is used for economic development that may include low interest loans or grants to businesses expanding or locating in Fillmore County.
FHLB JOBS Revolving Loan Funds - Fillmore County - A revolving loan fund is available through First National Bank in Exeter to provide direct or deferred loan for business start ups, business expansion, or job training that is directly or indirectly related to the growth of the ethanol industry in Fillmore County. Loans can be for a maximum of $5,000 and can be used in combination with traditional bank funding.

an introductory course on what needs to be in a business
plan and then help the participant with the organization

also provide information about low interest loans and/or
gap financing.
